What percentage is appropriate to tip your barber?

I often get highlights as well as a haircut, which is a relatively tedious process for the barber -- she has to pull strands of my hair through a hairnet with holes in it, then brush bleach over it all, then wash it out, then cut it and then use the straightening iron to make it straight. This can take 2 hours, and it costs about $40 to $50. Last time I gave her a 20% tip -- $10 and I got the impression that she thought that was excessive. But heck, she did a lot of work. So what percentage is most typically given? What percentage is appropriate to tip your barber?
10%....barrie you need to revisit etiquette school. Tipping is a gratuity that you give for good service. Usually 15% minimum if you decide to tip, more if you are very satisfied and can afford it. This person is taking care of your hair for you. Your a woman! have you ever seen a women after a bad hair cut or color job? Please for the love of god and for the sake of your significant male other or any male that you have contact with TIP HER WELL. She will be appreciative and take her time with you if she knows its worth it. Or tip her not and she may rush to try and make more money by doing quantity not quality. What percentage is appropriate to tip your barber?
2,000.00$
Doesn't it depend upon how pleased you are with the result and if you think it is worth it and you can afford it - why not show your appreciation by adding a bit extra - normally no more than 10%.

Tips in india i think are considered an insult except when given to waiters .... Usually every other person has the dignity to say that hes already gotten what he deserved ...
