What does it take for a cosmetologist to become a barber?

I am a cosmetologist in the state of Ohio. Can I also work in a barber shop? If not, what do I need to do in order to work in a barber shop. What does it take for a cosmetologist to become a barber?
i think you need a seperate license to be a barber...you're not licensed to use razors on the skin (to shave, line-up, clean up the neck, etc.)

i'm not positive, but i think you may need a seperate license. call the licensing board or the health department in your state...they should be able to tell youWhat does it take for a cosmetologist to become a barber?
ok, well as long as u know how to do men's hair cuts u shouldn't have a problem. when u go to beauty school both barber and cosmetology is now together under cosmetology and that's for the state on NJ.

try called the state board of cosmetology and ask them about the laws in Ohio for u working as a barber.
It will take approx. 18 months to continue your education to become a barber. You can work in a barber shop, but only to do color, perms and scissor cuts, the State of Ohio, is very specific about clippers and razors. Razors are only to be used with a guard, not skin contact, Clippers are really not suppose to be used at all, however, you can use them if you graduated with that specialize training.
